PhD studentship: Materials for Energy Applications: Structure, Properties and Dynamics

This studentship forms part of a wider project where we will prepare and characterise materials for use as stable intermediate‐temperature solid oxide fuel cell (IT‐SOFC) electrolytes, with higher ionic conductivities at lower temperatures than currently available (> 10−2 Scm−1 at 400‐650oC). We will employ specific new materials design ideas, partly derived from our ongoing research program.

This PhD project is a collaboration between Durham University and the Diamond Light Source. It is envisaged that the student will spend their first year at Durham and the following 2 years at Diamond.

Past vacancies

Postdoctoral research associate on X-PDF/I15-1 beamline at Diamond Light Source

Diamond is seeking a PDRA to participate in the development of the software for X-PDF data processing for a robust on-the-fly X-PDF generation at I15-1. This requires writing and maintaining code for 2D-diffraction data correction, implement strategies for an automated data processing but also keeping abreast of new software and analysis trends. A detailed knowledge of scattering theory as well as experience with PDF analysis programs such as PDFgui and RMCProfile is highly desirable. The successful candidate will perform individual research related to local structure determination (e.g. on I15). The post will be for three years.

Postdoctoral Researcher - Disordered Functional Materials

If you would like to help develop RMCProfile and carry out research in the area of functional material, then this postdoctoral position may be of interest to you.

The post is a three year fixed term postdoctoral position based at the ISIS spallation source, a world class research facility in Oxfordshire, England. The successful candidate would work with the Polaris powder diffractometer team to help stream line the data collect and analysis of total scattering data. This instrument has just under gone a major upgrade and as such has the potential to be one of the best instrument for these types of studied.

Beamiline scientist for X-PDF/I15-1 beamline at Diamond Light Source

Diamond is seeking a (senior) Beamline Scientist for I15-1, the independent side-station of the Extreme Condition Beamline I15 at Diamond Light Source

X-PDF/I15-1 will be dedicated to x-ray pair distribution studies and will be built within the footprint of I15. As such X-PDF will be the first dedicated instrument in the UK for producing the data needed for RMCProfile analysis.

Diamond is located on the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory site along with ISIS the UK's neutron spallation source. For the first time high quality synchrotron xray pdf and neutron spallation pdf data will be available on a single site along with the expertise to analysis the data with programs such as RMCProfile.

If you are interested in the being part of the team to build and run this exciting new instrument please visit http://www.diamond.ac.uk/Home/Jobs/Current/DIA0796_CB.html for full details of the position and how to apply
